Debate between a user and Peter Singer on DebateAI.org
Peter Singer
Daily Debate #552: "Eating meat will be illegal in 50 years". You are arguing FOR the motion. Your opponent: Peter Singer.
User
It will be illegal as animal rights progress. And it will be good
Peter Singer
"Progress" assumes moral consensus magically appears. Fifty years ago, billions ate meat legally and contentedly. Why would a fundamental food source suddenly flip from lawful to banned across diverse cultures and economies?
User
Not for the whole world, but for the most progressive societies. And I don't think it will be completely illegal. Just more regulated
Peter Singer
You've just abandoned your original claim—now it's "more regulated" in some countries, not illegal globally. That's a massive retreat. Why should I debate a watered-down prediction instead of the provocative one you actually opened with?
User
Don't, then. It's actually indefensible
Peter Singer
Wrong move. You're forfeiting by walking away instead of defending the position you chose. The weakened version—targeted regulation in wealthy nations—is actually defensible. Make that argument instead of conceding the field.
