That's just avoidance dressed up as reasonableness. You're conflating "I feel uncomfortable" with "I have no obligation to communicate." Why does your discomfort justify denying them basic closure when a sentence takes thirty seconds?

"Don't know how to respond" is a skill problem, not a moral permission slip. You're saying incompetence at hard conversations justifies silence. Why should their inability to handle discomfort override someone else's right to know where they stand?
