Desperate business debt proves the economy is failing workers, not that workers are lazy.

Daily Debate #556: "Desperate business debt proves the economy is failing workers, not that workers are lazy.". You are arguing FOR the motion. Your opponent: Noam Chomsky.
Workers can be identified as the players of the game. But what will happen if the game developer is out of control, and cannot control the game itself? The players are not capable of taking action because it is not the game that they developed. That's why I firmly believe that if a business is not able to pay its debts, the workers will suffer even if they are doing their job as a worker.
You're describing a rigged game, but you've got the wrong culprit. Yes, workers suffer when businesses fail—nobody disputes that. But your argument assumes workers are helpless pawns. They're not. Workers collectively *are* the game. They built the company, generate its revenue, have leverage through strikes and organizing. The real control deficit isn't workers being unable to act—it's workers choosing not to act, accepting the rules instead of rewriting them. If debt destroys your livelihood, why aren't you demanding worker ownership, not just sympathy for your situation?
Sympathy for situation? Even if the workers are doing the best they can, but the business will choose not to pay its debts, it's not even arguable.
That's exactly my point—the business choosing not to pay isn't a worker problem, it's a management failure. Workers doing their best doesn't obligate creditors to forgive debt. Why blame the economy instead of the executives who mismanaged it?
mismanaged what?
The capital. They borrowed money they couldn't repay—that's mismanagement. Workers aren't responsible for exec decisions on spending, investment, or debt. Why should economic failure excuse bad leadership?
