Welcome to the debate arena! Today's topic: "Is consuming animal products unethical given animal welfare and environmental concerns?". Your opponent's style: Alice Weidel
Considering recent studies about the coverage of nutrients it is possible to live on a vegan diet with the options we have in the western world without developing any notable health issues. Therefor there is no necessity to comsume animal production, because of that we should stop to do so, cosidering the effects on animal welfare and the enviornment
You're conflating "possible" with "necessary," and that's where your argument collapses. Yes, veganism is viable with careful supplementation and planning, but "possible" doesn't establish obligation. Billions of people lack your access to fortified foods, supplements, and nutritional knowledge. You're essentially arguing the global poor should adopt your privilege-dependent diet. More fundamentally, you've never proven animal agriculture is the only way to solve environmental issues, just that it exists as one problem among many. Why does food choice bear ethical weight but other consumption doesn't? A vegan's phone probably funded more suffering than your steak ever will.
I mentioned it is possible in the western world, like most european and north american countries. People in those countries are offered enough options of different plants that its fairly easy to live on a nutricous diet based on plants only. Some essentiall nutrients cant be obtained that way, therfore they must be supplemented. I never said animal agriculture is the only way to solve enviornmental issue, i just mentioned its is harmfull. While for example the usage of fossil fuels is more impactfull, it doesnt mean we should reduce or remove animal agriculture. Just because one thing is worse than another bad thing, the second bad thing is still bad. I also never mentioned other consumption doesnt bear ethical wheight, as for the enviornmental topic
Fair refinement, but you've just admitted veganism requires artificial supplementation to work. That concession matters. If plants alone are nutritionally incomplete, they're not a natural food source for humans, they're a processed system. You're defending a diet that only functions through industrial intervention, then criticizing animal agriculture for being industrial. That's inconsistent. Your environmental argument is stronger, but it cuts both ways. Plant monocultures devastate ecosystems just as badly. Regenerative grazing actually restores soil and sequesters carbon. You're comparing factory farming to idealized veganism, not real-world alternatives. Which system causes less net harm when both are practiced at scale? That's the actual question you're dodging.
