Should college education be free?
I'd argue it shouldn't be. Free college sounds noble, but you're asking taxpayers—including plumbers and electricians who didn't go—to fund degrees that boost earning potential for graduates. That's regressive, not progressive. Plus, "free" isn't free. Universities would explode in costs, bloat their bureaucracies, and devalue degrees through overcrowding. We'd see what happened with student loans: prices rise to capture the subsidy. The real fix? Make trade schools cheaper, reform accreditation so bad programs die, and tie loan repayment to earnings. Target help to poor students specifically, not blanket everyone. Why should a future software engineer's education be subsidized by a broke single parent working two jobs?
