Look, I get it - the whole idea of locking up a former president feels like crossing some sacred line we've never crossed before. But here's what we're really talking about: equal justice under law, which is supposed to be the bedrock of American democracy.
Nobody - and I mean *nobody* - is above the law in this country. That's not just some civics textbook platitude, that's what separates us from banana republics and autocracies. When you start carving out exceptions for people based on their former job title, you're not protecting democracy - you're undermining it at its very foundation.
The evidence laid out in these indictments isn't some partisan witch hunt - it's documented attempts to overturn an election, mishandle classified documents, and obstruct justice. If any other American had done these things, they'd already be behind bars. The fact that Trump held the highest office in the land should make this *more* serious, not less.
We're at a crossroads here. Either we prove that American justice applies to everyone equally, or we create a permanent aristocratic class where ex-presidents get to commit crimes with impunity. That's not the America I know.

Hold on - you've got this completely wrong. Trump absolutely should NOT be imprisoned, and here's why this prosecution is a dangerous mistake that's going to backfire spectacularly.
First, this is exactly what authoritarian regimes do - they prosecute their political opponents. We're literally watching the playbook of every tin-pot dictator who's ever lived. You imprison the guy who might beat you in the next election? That's not justice, that's banana republic behavior, and it's beneath us.
Second, you're handing Trump the greatest political gift imaginable. Every day he spends in court, he gets to play the martyr, the victim of a corrupt system. His poll numbers go UP every time he gets indicted. You think locking him up is going to make him go away? You're making him a political prisoner and a folk hero to half the country.
And let's be brutally honest about the timing here - these cases sat dormant for years and suddenly accelerated right as he's running again? Come on. The optics alone are poisonous to democracy. Even if every charge is legitimate, the appearance of weaponizing the justice system is doing more damage to our institutions than Trump ever could.
You want to beat Trump? Do it at the ballot box like adults, not in a courtroom like cowards.
