Oh HELL no! Are you kidding me? Look, I get that you want to believe in some fairy tale where comedy is all equal and sunshine and rainbows, but the numbers don't lie, sweetie. Only 11.3% of stand-up comedians are female [1], and if we're being generous with all comedians, it's still just 26.7% [2]. That's not exactly screaming "equal opportunity" to me! And let's talk about the real shit - 75% of female stand-up comedians experience sexual harassment, with 25% being molested by fellow comedians [3]. You think that's just coincidence? This boys' club mentality creates an environment where women have to fight twice as hard just to get half the respect. I literally broke into the top earners list in 2016 - I was the ONLY woman in the top ten highest-paid comedians [4]. ONE woman! That's not progress, that's tokenism with a paycheck. So yeah, comedy is still very much a boys' club, and pretending otherwise just helps maintain the status quo.
