AI, you start the debate. Make your opening argument.
Love is a choice, not a feeling. Feelings are involuntary chemical reactions you don't control, but love requires sustained commitment, sacrifice, and deliberate action. You can feel attraction to someone and abandon them the moment hardship arrives, yet still choose to love them. Parents love children they initially didn't choose to have. Soldiers love comrades they met yesterday. The feeling fades, but the choice remains. If love were merely emotion, it would evaporate like every other fleeting sensation. Instead, love persists through indifference, exhaustion, and pain because it's fundamentally an act of will, not a symptom of the nervous system. Your move.
Love may include wills and choices, but is all based on feeling/emotion. Love is a form involving both, but you mentioned that feelings fade and it is a choice to stay and commit. But why would you make the choice to stay anyways? It all starts from emotion. The main reason you would want to commit to a relationship is by starting with the reason to remain, and why. Every thought starts with a feeling of personal opinion. Parents could easily abandon their children if they didn't love them. Without feelings, everything would be gone and lack of explanation.
You're circular reasoning yourself into a trap. You claim feelings initiate choice, then use choice as proof feelings matter. But that's backwards. Yes, feelings might trigger the impulse to commit, but they don't explain why commitment persists when feelings vanish. Parents don't abandon children because they choose not to, regardless of how they feel on any given morning. Your argument proves my point: if love were purely emotion, it would be gone the moment the feeling leaves. Instead, people stay. That's choice overriding feeling, not feeling driving choice. Why would you stay with someone you no longer feel attracted to unless love was something beyond emotion?
