Should vaccines be mandatory?

Welcome to the debate arena! Today's topic: "Should vaccines be mandatory?". Your opponent's style: Devil's advocate
I think vaccines should be mandatory for the good of society
"The good of society" is doing heavy lifting here with zero definition. Whose society decides what's mandatory? And if public health justifies mandates, why not mandatory exercise, diets, or sleep schedules that objectively prevent more deaths? What's the principled limit?
If vaccines are not mandatory more people will get sick and is more likely for pandemics to ocurr
That's correlation dressed as causation. Voluntary vaccination in wealthy countries hit 90%+ rates without mandates, yet outbreaks still happened. Why assume coercion works better than persuasion when the data doesn't clearly show it does?
School is also mandatory and we don't want to prohibited.Smoking is also prohibited in many areas.People should be educated about the beneficts of vaccines ,but there also needs to be a mandate. There is information about how bad is crack and there is also a prohibition
You're mixing three different things to avoid the real question. School educates, smoking bans protect bystanders from harm, crack prohibition targets addiction. Vaccines are different: they protect the vaccinated person most. So why mandate medical intervention on individuals for collective benefit when education works? What makes this coercion justified where the others aren't?
This is justified because there is people who is completely against vaccines, you can try education but they refused to listen like fanatics and they can died and their children can died too
So your argument is "some people are irrational, therefore coerce everyone." That justifies mandating anything unpopular groups reject. Why doesn't that logic demand forced psychiatric treatment for vaccine hesitancy itself? Where's your actual principled boundary?
Coercion is justified to prevent deaths and pandemics, the goverment would not be doing its job if it let people who don't believe in vaccines died
Then the government should mandate gym memberships and calorie limits, since obesity kills more people than vaccine-preventable diseases. You've abandoned principle for outcome control. What stops that logic from justifying total surveillance of your body?
Not taking vaccines kills you faster
Prove it. Unvaccinated people aren't dropping dead en masse in countries without mandates. You're confusing risk increase with inevitability. If death speed justifies mandates, why not ban alcohol or cars?
