God's indifference is just theology's last retreat when the evidence fails. If he doesn't care, why pray? Why claim he answers anything at all?

Because indifference destroys the whole enterprise. A god who doesn't care is functionally identical to no god at all. So why maintain the pretense? What's the practical difference?
