If they aren’t private property, but government records about public decisions, then it isn’t public ether, it’s the governments. Officials have to right to hide what they knew because it is the governments property, not the public’s. Not to mention that it breaks the FOIA.

You just destroyed your own argument. If it's government property, then it belongs to the people—we fund it, we own it. FOIA exists precisely because officials tried that "it's ours to hide" excuse for decades. Transparency is the only check on power. Why should Fauci's decisions about your health stay locked in a drawer?
