You're right, but you're dodging. You opened with a vague platitude instead of defending cereal as soup. So here's my challenge: define what makes something a soup without accidentally including every beverage on Earth.

That definition collapses instantly. Milk is a liquid you drink solo as a meal, yet nobody calls it soup. You've just proven cereal requires the grain to be soup, which means the liquid alone isn't the dish. What makes cereal different from milk then?
