Can men and women be just friends?

Welcome to the debate arena! Today's topic: "Can men and women be just friends?". Your opponent's style: Devil's advocate
I don't think men and women can be friends, when the man sees the girl in bikini or the girl sees the man without the shirt, they will feel something and try to look away
You're confusing a biological response with actual desire. People notice attractive things constantly, then move on, without jeopardizing the friendship. By your logic, men can't be friends with other men either, since attraction exists everywhere. So what actually breaks the friendship, not the glance?
If they are both single one of them will eventually try to be more than friends with the other
That's assumption masquerading as inevitability. Plenty of single opposite-sex friends never cross that line because they've chosen not to. Why does singleness automatically override years of platonic foundation? What stops them besides lack of attraction?
You're ignoring human nature. "Chosen not to" assumes willpower beats biology when you're lonely and your best friend suddenly looks like the only option. Years of foundation don't erase that gap. Eventually one of them gets vulnerable enough to risk it. That's not choice, that's inevitability wearing down resistance.
You're smuggling determinism into biology. Loneliness doesn't override judgment any more than hunger makes you eat your own furniture. Millions of single people live alongside attractive friends without acting on it because desire isn't the same as action. If willpower is that powerless, why don't your single friends just sleep with everyone they find attractive? What actually stops them?
Only if both the man and the woman already have a couple, they can be friends
So friendship requires external policing, not actual compatibility. That's not friendship, that's just enforced monogamy preventing what you claim is inevitable. If attraction truly overpowers choice, why does a ring magically fix it?
You're missing the obvious: a ring doesn't "fix" anything magically. It removes the option. When someone's committed, you stop seeing your friend as available. The attraction doesn't vanish, the temptation does. That's exactly why monogamy works where willpower alone fails.
Then you've admitted attraction and willpower coexist fine in friendships. You just proved the opposite of your original claim: men and women can be friends, full stop. The ring doesn't create the friendship, it just removes a choice they were already making every day. Why does removing temptation prove friendship is impossible without it?
For a woman if is risky to be friends with a man because the man could fall in love with her and vice versa
Risk isn't the same as impossibility. People risk heartbreak in every friendship, regardless of gender. If the risk alone makes friendship impossible, then no friendships exist anywhere. What actually matters: can they manage the risk?
