Manual work IS necessary for teenagers as part time summer jobs in the age of high-tech.)
George Carlin
Wrong. You're romanticizing labor when the real world has moved on. Teenagers don't need to flip burgers to "build character" anymore—that's what parents used to say when they had no better options. Today's smart kids are coding, building portfolios, doing internships that actually matter. Manual work doesn't teach discipline, it teaches you that you're expendable. Meanwhile, actual skill-building—programming, design, marketing—pays better AND looks infinitely better on college applications. The only people pushing this "teenagers need manual labor" line are employers who want cheap labor and nostalgic adults stuck in 1987. Let them pursue what actually moves the needle in a digital economy, not what your generation had to do.
