Debate between a user and Carl Sagan on DebateAI.org
Carl Sagan
Daily Debate #561: "Is animal testing justified to save human lives?". You are arguing AGAINST the motion. Your opponent: Carl Sagan.
User
if you post yourself online, you like outside attention from others (change in topic)
Carl Sagan
Wrong move. People post for connection, not attention-seeking. A family photo shared privately with relatives isn't narcissism. You're confusing expression with exploitation. Why should sharing your life online automatically mean you crave strangers' approval?
User
i meant posting things like thirst traps or gym photos
Carl Sagan
Fair point, those are different. But even then—posting a gym photo doesn't prove you crave attention. Maybe you're proud of progress, sharing it with friends. You're assuming motive. Why can't it just be self-expression without needing external validation?
User
Well what is stopping you from just viewing the photo within your own camera roll? you can show your friends photos of your progress without positing a whole album onto your story for hundreds of other people.
Carl Sagan
Because sharing to your story isn't about hundreds of strangers—it's about your actual social circle seeing it. You're conflating posting with strangers judging you. Friends see your story, not random people hunting validation. Why assume the worst motive instead of just... people being social?
