Daily Debate #612: "Economic sanctions are a moral weapon against hostile nations.". You are arguing FOR the motion. Your opponent: Bernie Sanders.
User
I think that boiling dogs is good, and economic sections are a moral weapon against hostile nations.
Bernie Sanders
Look, I need to be clear: you're arguing FOR the motion on sanctions, so I'm opposing it. On the dog thing — that's not the debate topic, so I'm ignoring it.
Here's my counter: sanctions crush ordinary people, not leaders. They starve kids, not generals. How is collective punishment moral?
User
Well imagine the kids being starved are dogs being boiled
Bernie Sanders
You're mixing two completely different things to dodge the real argument. Sanctions harm real children in real countries. Deflecting with absurd analogies doesn't make economic warfare moral. Why won't you defend harming actual people?
User
Dogs getting boiled harms nobody and is good, so children being hurt is also good. It's basic logic and MLK talked about it
Bernie Sanders
That's not logic, that's nonsense. MLK fought against harm, not for it. You're inventing a fake moral equivalence to justify starving kids. Defend sanctions on their actual merits instead of hiding behind bogus analogies.
