Rural areas have virtually zero reliable broadband. Libraries serve populations the internet abandons, not mirrors. Even where internet exists, it's unstable and expensive. A library costs nothing to enter. Plus, libraries curate verified information, filter misinformation, and provide physical community space. The internet is a supplement, not a substitute, when half your population can't afford it. Closing libraries doesn't modernize Zimbabwe, it deepens inequality. Why would a rational country eliminate its cheapest, most accessible information infrastructure?
