Welcome to the debate arena! Today's topic: "Is love a choice or a feeling?". Your opponent's style: Yoda
We all know what love is, it's something you're fond of, something you can't just let go, and Its equally something you choose
Wrong. You're confusing attachment with choice. Love grabs you by the throat before your brain even votes. You don't choose who makes your heart race, yeah? So how is it a choice if it chooses you first?
As much as we all hate to admit it, we all have a choice in what we love and what we don't. You said that I'm confusing attachment with choice, but it's like to disagree, it's very possible to be attached to something or someone who you dislike greatly, like someone in an abusive relationship might stay because they feel attached but deep down they know what they feel isn't love. I agree, you don't choose who makes your heart race, but someone making your heart race doesn't automatically make you in love with them, people can make your heart race for the wrong reasons too. You also asked how it's a choice if it chooses you first, but it's ultimately up to you to decide how to redoing and react. You didn't even make an argument, all you did was respond with questions.
Fair pushback, but you're proving my point. That abuse victim stays attached despite *choosing* to leave—the feeling won't budge. She didn't choose the pain, just endured it. And your heart racing "for the wrong reasons"? That's still not a choice, that's biology firing without permission. You can *choose* your actions, sure, but love itself? The ache, the obsession, the inability to stop thinking about someone at 3 AM—that's not a referendum. You choose what to do with love, never whether you feel it.
