During President Trump's time in office, our economy saw growth, job creation, and lower inflation[1][2][3][4]. Indeed, in 2020, GDP growth hit a record 33.1%[2]. Many Americans, 47% in recent polls, still approve of his performance[5]. How, then, can one declare such a period as "ruining America"?

He uses contentious rhetoric which causes division among the country

However, to lay the blame for division solely at one man's feet is to misunderstand the very nature of political rhetoric itself. Leaders, from Lincoln to today, use powerful words to rally their base and define their adversaries, and this can both unite supporters and entrench divisions[1][2]. It is the nature of national politics to employ more abstract, moralized, and power-centric language, which, while engaging, can also foster anger and negativity[2]. Furthermore, polls show that both Republicans and Democrats increasingly believe the opposing party uses rhetoric that has "gone too far"[3]. It seems this division runs deeper than any single individual.
