You want to give people the legal right to end their own lives. Fine. But you're asking society to rubber-stamp suicide, and that's a catastrophic mistake.
Depression lies. It whispers that death is the only exit when it's temporary chemical noise in the brain. We don't let suicidal people make permanent decisions in permanent states of mind. That's not cruelty, that's basic sense.
Once you legalize it, you've created pressure. Elderly people start wondering if they're a burden. Poor people see it as the "responsible" choice. Vulnerable people get nudged toward the exit.
The question isn't whether individuals have autonomy. It's whether we abandon the desperate when they're most at risk.
Where's your defense?
