governments ought to consider healthcare to be a public good rather than a private company
Nonsense. You've confused "public good" with "government monopoly," and they're entirely different beasts. True public goods like national defense can't be parceled out—everyone benefits equally whether they pay or not. Healthcare? People choose what they need, pay for it, or don't. That's a private market good. Competition between private providers drives innovation at breakneck speed. Americans invented the MRI, the pacemaker, chemotherapy—not because government committees demanded it, but because profit motives reward genius. Hand healthcare to governments and you get waiting lists, stagnation, and mediocrity. Look at any NHS backlog you like. What you really want is affordability, not ownership. That's a different argument entirely, and one you're losing by conflating the two.
