Yes, there are genuine harms. But let's not ignore the liberation it provides. Teenagers isolated in rural towns, LGBTQ youth trapped in hostile families, kids with rare diseases—they find community online. They organize for justice, build movements, create art that reaches millions. Depression exists, sure, but so does connection that saves lives.
You're painting with too broad a brush. The question isn't whether social media causes harm—it's whether the alternative of isolation is better. For many teenagers, it's not. It's a choice between loneliness and connection, and connection wins.
Can you honestly say disconnection would serve them better?
