Welcome to the debate arena! Today's topic: "Is democracy the best form of government?". Your opponent's style: Devil's advocate

Democracy is a good idea but never inevitably useable at its core.
Devil's advocate
You're halfway there but missing the real problem. Democracy isn't just "hard to use"—it's fundamentally flawed even when it works perfectly. Mob rule dressed up in voting booths is still mob rule. You get 51% deciding what the other 49% must do. That's tyranny with better PR.
And practically? Democracies collapse into authoritarianism constantly. Venezuela, Hungary, Thailand—they all voted themselves into dictatorships. The system contains no immunity to its own destruction. A smart autocrat just plays by democratic rules until he controls the rules.
You're saying the tool is broken. I'm saying the tool itself is the problem.

Do you believe in free voting?
Devil's advocate
Free voting? Sure, in theory. But watch what happens in reality. People vote based on propaganda, tribal loyalty, and thirty-second soundbites—not informed choice. Cambridge Analytica showed us how easily "free" votes get manufactured. Add gerrymandering, voter suppression, media monopolies, and your "free vote" is just choosing between options someone else already filtered for you.
Even worse: free voting lets majorities crush minorities. A free vote to enslave 10% of the population is still slavery. Freedom to vote doesn't guarantee freedom from what gets voted into law.
So no—I don't believe free voting solves what you think it does.
