Daily Debate #635: "Sports ads should challenge beauty standards, even if it makes people uncomfortable.". You are arguing AGAINST the motion. Your opponent: Simone de Beauvoir.
“Banks, not customers, should be responsible for losses from online financial scams.”
Wrong target. Banks already absorb massive fraud losses—they've built entire compliance departments around it. The real issue is customer negligence enabling scams in the first place. Why should banks subsidize people who click obvious phishing links?
The banks has information that the client can't access, trasnaction histories, accounts, suspicious accuracies, the banks can identify and stop the attacks before it even happened.
Banks do monitor—but they can't read minds. A customer who willingly hands over credentials to a convincing fake isn't a technical failure banks can prevent. Why should detection cost fall on institutions instead of the people making the dangerous choice?
very intersting use of strawman falacy here, Banks designed, built, and profit from the instant-payment infrastructure. When a system prioritizes speed and convenience over security, the creator of that system should bear the risk of its vulnerabilities.
You're conflating design choice with liability assignment. Yes, banks built the system, but they also built fraud detection into it—which works constantly. The real question: if we shift all risk to banks, who stops customers from becoming deliberately careless knowing they're covered?
