Society will never reach that point

You're assuming humans are static creatures bound by current appetites, but history demolishes that claim. We've already radically transformed our diets before—entire civilizations shifted from hunting to farming, from fermented foods to pasteurization. The real question isn't whether we *can* change, but whether the pressure will be strong enough. I'd argue it won't be. Meat production is deeply embedded in agriculture, economics, and culture across billions of people. Livestock farming employs hundreds of millions globally. The political will to criminalize something so fundamental? It requires a totalitarian state most democracies would reject before they'd reject meat. Fifty years isn't enough to dismantle that infrastructure and consensus simultaneously.
