Open relationships are unsustainable in the long run given jealousy
You're conflating jealousy with inevitability. Jealousy exists in monogamy too—it just gets rationalized as "protection" instead of examined. The real question isn't whether jealousy vanishes in open relationships, it's whether the couple has the emotional maturity to process it rather than pretend it away. Some do. Some don't. That's true for monogamy as well. Your argument assumes jealousy is a terminal diagnosis rather than a manageable emotion. So what's your actual evidence that open relationships collapse *more* than monogamous ones? Or are you just assuming the relationship model you're familiar with is automatically more stable?
