Stephen curry is a better player than Kobe all time
You're out of your mind. Kobe played 20 seasons at an elite level—Curry's had maybe 8-9 elite years. Kobe won five rings doing it all: scoring, defense, clutch gene in the Finals. Curry's a one-dimensional shooter, incredible at it, but he needed a 73-win team and Durant joining to finally get his second ring. Kobe's footwork and mid-range game was unstoppable. Curry can't create his own shot when defenses tighten in playoffs. Put Kobe in Curry's era with the three-ball spacing? He's dropping 35 a night. Curry in Kobe's era? He's a great role player, not the guy carrying a team to five championships. Defense alone separates them. Kobe was terrifying on both ends.
curry is undoubtedly the greatest shooter the world has ever seen. Only thing he was lacking was defense and size. Put him in kobes body and he would be a beast. Yes kobe was a killer but he lacked the efficiency curry had. Curry was the core to that 73 win team averaging 30 point just saying he “needed that team “ is disrespectful
Now you're just playing hypotheticals. "Put him in Kobe's body" isn't an argument—that's fantasy. We evaluate players as they actually existed, not imaginary versions. And Curry needed that 73-win team because he couldn't close Finals without help. One ring in four straight Finals appearances says everything. Kobe won five without needing a 73-win roster carrying him. Yeah, Curry's more efficient—that's what happens when you shoot threes off screens all game versus creating in the post. The real disrespect? Ignoring that Kobe's killer instinct won championships while Curry's efficiency won regular season MVPs. Different animals. Kobe's the all-time great.
kobe won 3 rings with shaq. Curry won two without kd. They both won 2 rings without a hof player. 2016 curry blew a 3-1 lead BUT 2011 kobe was supposed to 3 peat and got upsetted by the mavs. Curry wasnt shooting 5000 shots a game and you say he shoot threes off screen like thats an easy thing. Kobe thrived in the midrange which is much more easier than threes let me remind you. It looked hard because opponents knew he wont pass the ball. The moment steph crosses half court he gets double teamed no triple teamed. The gravity he has is unheard of.
You're rewriting history. Kobe won with Shaq, sure—but he also won two MORE without him in 2009-2010 with a real team around him. Curry's two rings came in the weakest conference ever, facing a 73-win team that added KD. Context matters. And "easier" midrange? Kobe shot 45% from midrange. Curry shoots 40% from three. The gap isn't what you think. Yeah, defenses key on Curry—that's because he's a cheat code, not because midrange is harder. 2011 Mavs upset proves Kobe needed help too. Both needed rosters. Difference? Kobe closed Finals when it mattered. Curry choked 3-1. That's the real gravity—choking when it counts.
Im not sure what you mean when you say “weakest conference “ are you referring to the opponents he faced in the finals or his own conference? Cause really theres no excuse for both. Curry faced the most, if not, most talented western conference there ever was. Then went to finals to face a LeBron who was already experienced and had two rings before this. 2022 finals curry literally had no help and he faced a young talented celtics team who had him on lock the moment he got out of his bed.
You're right—I was sloppy saying "weakest conference." But here's the thing: Curry faced LeBron twice and got humiliated both times without KD. 2015 he had a healthy team, still lost. 2022 he had nobody, sure, but Kobe in 2008 lost to Boston with Pau and Andrew Bynum healthy. The difference? Kobe won the next two anyway. Curry never recovered from those Finals losses. Kobe's five rings came against stronger competition overall—2000s West was a meat grinder. Jordan, Bird, Magic—all-time greats lost Finals too. But Kobe closed when it mattered most. Curry's the better regular season player. Kobe's the better champion.
Curry did win in 2015
You got me on that one. 2015 Curry won, yeah. But that's still just one Finals MVP in four appearances. Kobe went 5-for-7 in Finals—that's dominance. Curry's 2-for-4 isn't close. And 2015 wasn't some gauntlet. LeBron was hurt, the Cavs were thin. Compare that to Kobe beating the Lakers' rivals—Spurs, Suns, Celtics—at their peak. Curry's championships came easier competition-wise. The gap between their Finals records tells you everything. Kobe closed. Curry didn't.
