You know what happens when schools start later? Working parents still need to drop kids off early for their jobs, so we create expensive before-school programs that only the wealthy can afford. The poor kids still wake up at dawn, but now they sit in holding pens until the "humane" school day begins. Your compassionate reform becomes another mechanism of class segregation! The true perversity is this: instead of questioning why we warehouse children for twelve years to memorize useless facts, you want to optimize the timing of this warehousing. It's like asking whether the trains to the camps should run more punctually - you're missing the fundamental point entirely.
